Transition-metal nitrosyl compounds. Dibromodinitrosylmolybdenum, dibromodinitrosyltungsten, di-iododinitrosylmolybdenum, and some of their derivatives

Abstract

Molybdenum or tungsten hexacarbonyl react with nitrosyl bromide to give dibromodinitrosylmolybdenum or dibromodinitrosyltungsten. Di-iododinitrosylmolybdenum has also been prepared. These compounds readily react with ligands (L) to give the monomeric octahedral complexes M(NO)2Br2L2, where L = triphenylphosphine, triphenylarsine, or pyridine. The reaction of the Mo(NO)2X2 with tetra-alkylammonium salts give compounds of the type [Mo(NO)2X4][R4N]2(X = Br, R = Et; X = I, R = Bun).
