Non-linear absorptions in pendant [60]fullerene–polystyrene polymers

Abstract

Optical limiting properties of pendant [60]fullerene–polystyrene polymers which are prepared by covalently attaching [60]fullerene molecules to the phenyl groups on polystyrene chains in a Friedel–Crafts type reaction have been investigated. The results are compared with those of the [60]fullerene monomer. Effects of the polymer structural factors on optical limiting results are evaluated. The optical limiting is attributed to the non-linear absorptions in the pendant C 60 -polystyrene polymers, which are discussed in terms of the reverse saturable absorption mechanism.
