Multiphoton ionization processes in HCl studied by photoelectron spectroscopy

Abstract

A (2 + 1) REMPI–PES study of HCl has been carried out in the two-photon energy region between 77 000 and 85 500 cm–1. The observed 1Δ(2), 3Δ(2), 3Π(1) and 3Σ(0+) states are characterized as Rydberg states. The one-photon ionization of the B 1Σ+ state has been shown to be dominated by indirect processes involving competition between electronic autoionization and dissociation via superexcited states.
