Macropolyhedral boron-containing cluster chemistry. Metallathiaboranes from S2B17H17: isolation and characterisation of [(η6-MeC6H4isoPr)RuS2B16H16] and [(η6-MeC6H4isoPr)RuS2B15H15]

Abstract

Deprotonation of [S2B17H17] 1 with NaH and subsequent reaction with [{RuCl26-MeC6H4isoPr)}2] gives new nineteen-vertex [(η6-MeC6H4isoPr)RuS2B16H16] 2, with a nido {SB9} unit and an arachno-type {RuSB9} unit conjoined with a B–B edge in common, and new eighteen-vertex [(η6-MeC6H4isoPr)RuS2B15H15] 3 with a nido {RuSB9} subcluster fused via a common B–B edge to a nido {B8} subcluster that is additionally linked exo to the {RuSB9} unit by a bridging sulfur atom that is held endo to the {B8} unit.
