Synthetic, spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic studies on complexes formed between indium(III) iodide and phosphine ligands

Abstract

The 1 : 1 adducts of Inl3 with various phosphine ligands [PR3; R3= Bui3, HPh2, HBut2 or H(C6H11)2(C6H11= cyclohexyl)] have been prepared and characterised, and their solution properties, as examined by 1H, 31P and 115In NMR and conductivity measurements, indicate the presence of only neutral species. Infrared and Raman data have been recorded for the adducts in the solid state and compared with other published data. X-Ray studies on Inl3·PHR2(R = Ph or But) confirm the presence of neutral compounds containing four-co-ordinate indium atoms, but reveal that significant intermolecular interactions (In–I–In, P–H–I, In–I–I–In) are present.
