Membrane voltammetry: The interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions

Abstract

The voltammetric response obtained when the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) is modified by commercially available, track-etched membrane materials is reported. The electrochemical response is consistent with the location of the ITIES within the pores of the membrane material, i.e. ensembles of micro-ITIES are generated by this procedure. The mass-transport phenomena peculiar to these types of interface and prospects for the measurement of interfacial kinetics are discussed.
