Breaking down the para-sulfonato-calix[4]arene bilayer motif into tapes and fences: the solid-state structure of the complex with 6-methoxyquinoline

Abstract

The solid-state structure of the complex para-sulfonato-calix[4]arene·4(6-methoxyquinoline)·12H2O shows a classic bilayer structure of para-sulfonato-calix[4]arene cut into tapes by intercalated in-layer 6-methoxyquinoline molecules, there is formation of molecular fences of 6-methoxyquinoline with 5 π–π stacked molecules held between ‘fence posts’ of 6-methoxyquinoline molecules partially included in the cavities of the para-sulfonato-calix[4]arene molecules.
