Rylene annulated phthalocyanine: a fully conjugated block for the construction of a supramolecular two-dimensional framework

Abstract

A rylene annulated phthalocyanine (ZnPcPDI4) was designed and synthesized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses unambiguously confirmed the giant molecule quasi-planar “four leaf clover” skeleton with a 27 Å diameter and a two-dimensional cage-like supramolecular structure. The fully conjugated characteristics endowed it with significant Q-band red-shifts to the near-infrared region of 785 nm, and a largely degenerated LUMO level.
