Multiple pathways in the cleavage of benzyl groups from phosphonium salts by lithium aluminium hydride

Abstract

Reduction of benzylphosphonium salts by LiAlD4 affords a phosphine and PhCH2D, 2-DC6H4CH3 and PhCH3; pathways involving PV and PVI intermediates are proposed to account for these products.
