Linear face-sharing trioctahedral [Mo3I12]3– by spontaneous thf loss from [Mol4(thf)2]: structure, bonding and magnetic properties

Abstract

Complexes [Mo3X12]3–(X = I, Br) assemble by spontaneous thf loss in noncoordinating solvents from [MoX4(thf)2] and exhibit a linear face-shared trioctahedral structure with, at the same time, delocalized metal–metal bonding and local moment antiferromagnetic exchange interactions.
