Synthesis and molecular structure of tetraruthenium clusters carrying facial arene ligands

Abstract

The reaction of Ru3(CO)12 with 1,3-diisopropenylbenzene (C6H4-{CMeCH2}2-1,3) and isopropenylbenzene (C6H5-{CMeCH2}) in refluxing octane affords the novel species Ru4(CO)93222-C6H42-CMeCH2}2-1,3) and Ru4(CO)103222-C6H52-CMeCH2}) in which the unsaturated systems fully interact with the cluster unit formally supplying 10 and 8 electrons, respectively.
