Oxidative homolysis of the superoxopentaaquachromium(III)ion

Abstract

The polypyridine complexes of RuIII and FeIII react with [Cr(H2O)5O2]2+ to yield [Cr(H2O)6]3+ and O2 in the first reported case of chemically induced oxidative homolysis of a superxo metal complex.
