Dinuclear (η5-C5Me5)Ru complexes triply bridged by tellurium or selenium ligands–syntheses and characterisation of (η5-C5Me5)Ru(π2-RTeTeR)(π2-TeR)2Ru(η5-C5Me5) and [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(π2-SeR)3Ru(η5-C5Me5)]Cl (R = Tol, Ph)

Abstract

Reactions of [(η5-C5Me5)RuCl2]21 with Me3SiTeR (R = Tol, Ph; Tol =p-tolyl) produce diarylditelluride/aryltellurolate-bridged RuII–RuII complexes (η5-C5Me5)Ru(µ2-RTeTeR)(µ2-TeR)2Ru(η5-C5Me5)2(2a, R = Tol; 2b, R = Ph) whereas those with Me3SiSeR (R = Tol, Ph) yield arylselenolate-bridged RuIII–RuIII complexes [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(µ2-SeR)3Ru(η5-C5Me5)]Cl 3(3a, R = Tol; 3b, R = Ph); both 2a and 3a are fully characterised by X-ray crystallography.
