Synthesis and structural characterization of a large molybdenum–copper–sulphur cluster compound [Bun4N]4[Cu12Mo8S32]

Abstract

Reaction of [NH4]2[MoS4], CuCN and [Bun4N]Br in the solid state produced the mixed-metal sulphur cluster anion [Cu12Mo8S32]4–; an X-ray analysis of [Bun4N]4[Cu12Mo8S32] shows that the anion forms a cubane-like [Cu12Mo8] bimetallic cage through µ1-S, µ2-S, µ3-S and µ4-S atoms.
