Synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of hexakis(trimethylphosphine)tris-µ-methylene-diruthenium(III)

Abstract

The reaction between the dinuclear ruthenium-(II.III)-bridged acetate Ru2(O2CMe)4Cl and MgMe2 in presence of PMe3 produces the complex Ru2(CH2)3(PMe3)6(A) in low yield; higher yields are obtained if the trimeric µ3-oxo-centred acetate [Ru3O(O2CMe)6(H2O)3]·(O2CMe) is used and the structure of (A) has been determined by X-ray crystallography and contains three methylene bridges.
