Synthesis of allenyl prostaglandins

Abstract

A substituted acetylenic carbinol acetate is converted efficiently into a dialkylated allene by treatment with several equivalents of lithium dialkylcopper in diethyl ether solution; this organocopper reaction involves a reductive process followed by rearrangement and acetate elimination.
