Simultaneous determination of aluminium and zinc by first- and second-derivative synchronous fluorimetry

Abstract

A method for the simultaneous determination of aluminium and zinc in their mixtures by first- and second-derivative synchronous fluorimetry is described. The method is based on the fluorescent complexes formed by aluminium and zinc with 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid in the presence of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide as a surfactant. The range of application is between 0.02 and 0.10 µg ml–1 for aluminium and between 0.1 and 1.0 µg ml–1 for zinc. The accuracy and precision of the method are reported.
