Organo-Photocatalyzed Deoxygenative Alkylcarboxylation of Olefins with Alcohols and CO2

Abstract

Herein we report a general protocol of CO2 participated alkylative carboxylation of alkenes under photocatalysis, where alcohols serve as alkyl sources to provide alkyl radicals via a desulfurative process from in-situ generated xanthate salts. Compared to existing works, our approach features more easy-accessible alkyl source and broader substrate scope, accommodating primary, secondary and tertiary carbons. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction is initiated by the single-electron reduction between photoexcited catalyst and xanthate salt.
