We report here heterobimetallic 'Al-H-M' (M = Mg, Ca) hydrides on a chemically non-innocent picolyl-derived ethylenediamine ligand. The two alkaline earths result similar Intermediates but ultimately diverge to different endings. Intriguing metal-ligand interplays are suggested and also supported by DFT analysis in the Ca case.
