A study of 1-(hydroxymethyl)isoquinoline as a new member of the photoremovable protecting groups
Abstract
1-(Hydroxymethyl)isoquinoline derivatives 1-7 were characterized as PPGs using benzoic acid as the leaving group. C-8 Nitro substituted isoquinoline 5 exhibited red-shifted absorption spectrum and the fastest release kinetics, suggesting that introducing strong electron withdrawing groups to C-8 would be a promising strategy to enhance the chromophore’s photolytic performance.
