Photocatalytic activity of Rose Bengal encapsulated in zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (RB@ZIF-8): an innovative approach for the one pot synthesis of highly functionalized tetrahydropyridines and study of their anti-tubercular activity

Abstract

By exploring the photocatalytic activity of Rose Bengal (RB) encapsulated in zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) under visible light irradiation, we developed a unique approach for the synthesis of highly functionalized tetrahydropyridines at ambient temperature. This protocol shows generality across various types of benzaldehydes, anilines and alkyl acetoacetates. Feasible operation, availability of starting materials, column chromatography-free purification, short reaction time, low waste production, high diversity of products, and high TON and TOF are among the unique features of this method. In vitro anti-tubercular study of the synthesized compounds reveals that compound 5t shows the highest activity among all the synthesized derivatives.
