Conversion of carbon dioxide into solid carbon materials – a mini review

Abstract

Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas, causing severe global warming. Nevertheless, it is also a useful resource material that can be utilized to produce fuels and various organic chemicals. Recently, it has been found that carbon dioxide can be directly converted into solid carbon. In this review, the current technologies used for the reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon materials are summarized. We emphasized electrochemical catalytic systems. The effects of electrolytes and electrode materials on the conversion efficiency and the structure of carbon materials were discussed.
