Surface-assisted cistrans isomerization of an alkene molecule on Cu(110)

Abstract

From the interplay of STM imaging and DFT calculations we have investigated the isomerization of an alkene molecule on Cu(110) under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. We show that the on-surface cistrans isomerization could efficiently occur well below room temperature, in which the copper surface is speculated to play a key role.
