A pillar[2]arene[3]hydroquinone which can self-assemble to form a molecular zipper in the solid state

Abstract

Crystal structures of three novel pillararene derivatives, a pillar[2]arene[3]quinone, a pillar[1]arene[4]quinone, and a pillar[2]arene[3]hydroquinone, were obtained. Interestingly, the pillar[2]arene[3]hydroquinone could self-assemble to form a molecular zipper in the solid state driven by hydrogen bonds and C–H⋯π interactions.
