The first example of an inorganic–organic composite framework with a 3D inorganic Cd–O–M (M = Cd, Rb) connectivity, featuring a unique {Cd₇Rb}_n helix and nanoscale {Cd₁₆Rb₄} and {Cd₁₈Rb₂} rings, has been constructed and structurally characterized. This compound exhibits white-light emission and a wavelength-dependent photochromic response.
