A versatile approach for decorating 2D nanomaterials with Pd or Pt nanoparticles

Abstract

Bubbling H2 into colloidal suspensions of 2D sheets of graphene or h-BN stabilised in water with p-phosphonic acid calix[8]arene, and pre-treated to bind Pd(II) or Pt(IV) species to their surfaces, is effective in decorating the material with nanoparticles of the noble metals approximately 5 nm in diameter.
