Colloidal synthesis of magnetic nanorods with tunable aspect ratios

Abstract

A facile method of synthesizing single crystalline γ-Fe2O3 nanorods from inexpensive, nontoxic precursors has been developed. The aspect ratio of the nanorods can be controlled through changing reaction temperatures. A ligand directed growth mechanism was proposed for the magnetic anisotropic structure formation and the aspect ratio change.
