The electron precise incomplete cuboidal complex [Mo₃S₄(dppe)₃Br₃]Br (1a) with 6 cluster skeletal electrons (CSE) and its halogen-mixed analogue [Mo₃S₄(dppe)₃(Br,Cl)₃](Br,Cl) (1b) can be smoothly reduced to the paramagnetic [Mo₃S₄(dppe)₃X₃] clusters (2a, X = Br; 2b, X = Cl/Br) with 7 CSE by treatment with liquid Ga.
