A biocatalytic hydrogenation of carboxylic acids†
Abstract
The hyperthermophile Pyrococcus furiosus catalyses the hydrogenation of a broad range of carboxylic acids selectively to the corresponding primary alcohols. Other functional groups such as isolated C![[double bond, length as m-dash]](https://www.rsc.org/images/entities/char_e001.gif) C-double bonds are not touched. The chemoselectivity of the carboxylate reduction may be directed towards aldehydes by simple medium engineering.
