A new approach to synthesis of periodic mesoporous organosilicas: taking advantage of self-assembly and reactivity of organic precursors

Abstract

A new approach to the synthesis of multifunctional organosilicas that combines the self-assembly formation of an ordered mesostructure with chemical reactions for the creation of new organic groups is proposed. This strategy was employed to prepare ordered ethane–silica mesostructures with N-hydroxyurea and N,N′-ureidopropyl-(phenylboronic acid) groups formed because of using two reactive precursors in addition to a primary organosilane, bis(triethoxysilyl)ethane, the major component of the framework.
