A bi-solvent system consisting of perdeuterated pyridinium molten salt and DMSO-d₆ (dimethyl sulfoxide-d₆) has been developed for direct dissolution and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis of plant cell walls, which will shed a new light on efficient detailed structure of the plant cell walls and benefit lignin engineering for biofuel and biomaterial research.
