The long sought hexamethylhydrazinium(2+) dication, Me₃N–NMe₃²⁺, calculationally unstable towards “coulombic explosion” because of formal positive charges on adjacent N atoms, can be synthesized and isolated as a CHB₁₁Cl₁₁⁻ carborane salt.
