Permanently microbicidal materials coatings

Author affiliations

Abstract

Recently developed non-leaching, permanently microbicidal polymeric coatings are discussed. These coatings, comprising hydrophobic polycations either covalently attached or deposited (“painted”) onto surfaces of diverse materials, avidly kill human pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and viruses (but not mammalian cells) on contact by disrupting their lipid membranes.
