22  New compounds and structures in the solid state

Abstract

Structural and synthetic solid state chemistry has continued to prosper during 2003. One notable highlight is ECR-34, a gallosilicate-based zeolite that is thermally stable to 800 °C and contains one-dimensional 18-ring pores with a diameter of 10 Å. Another highlight, found in the area of organically templated oxyanion structures, has been the synthesis of several amine-templated scandium phosphates, one of which, (C2N2H10)8Sc8(ScO2)4(PO4)4(HPO4)12·12H2O, contains 10- and 14-ring channels and supercages within which ethylenediamine and water molecules are located. In keeping with the reports by previous reviewers, this review will provide an overview of the most significant developments reported in the last year and focus mainly on new compounds, with novel structure types, containing extended inorganic lattices.
