Ansa-di(phosphaneiminato)titanium chelates: novel isolobal analogues of ansa-titanocene derivatives

Abstract

(Me3SiN)But2P(CH2)3PBut2(NSiMe3) (1) was obtained by the Staudinger reaction from Me3SiN3 and But2P(CH2)3PBut2. Metathesis of 1 with TiCl4 in boiling toluene afforded the chelate [(NBut2P(CH2)3PBut2N)TiCl2] (2). [(NBut2P(CH2)3PBut2N)TiMe2] (3) and [(NBut2P(CH2)3PBut2N)Ti(CH2Ph)2] (4) were obtained from 2 by reaction with methyllithium and benzylmagnesium chloride, respectively. The crystal structures of 3 and 4 were determined. Both compounds exhibit two quite different bond angles at their respective nitrogen atoms (ca. 140° vs. ca. 160°).
