Liquid-crystalline Abrikosov flux phase with an antiferroelectric structure

Abstract

(S)-1-Methylheptyl 2-[4-(4-dodecyloxybenzoyloxy)phenyl]- pyrimidine-5-carboxylate and its racemic modification are synthesised; miscibility studies, investigations of defect textures, differential scanning calorimetry and electrical field studies show that this material exhibits an antiferroelectric twist grain boundary TGBC*A analogue of the Abrikosov flux phase found in superconductors.
