Triterpenoid total synthesis. Part 4.1 Synthesis of (±)-hippospongic acid A, a triterpene isolated from the marine sponge Hippospongia sp.

Abstract

Hippospongic acid A (1), a triterpene metabolite of a marine sponge Hippospongia sp. with inhibitory activity against gastrulation of starfish embryos, was synthesized as its racemate by starting from (2E,6E )-farnesol (2).
