The synthesis and structure of Tl(Sr1.4La2.6)Ni2O9; a direct structural analogue of a superconducting cuprate

Abstract

The nickelate Tl(Sr 1.4 La 2.6 )Ni 2 O 9 , synthesised by the reaction of Tl 2 O 3 , La 2 O 3 and Sr 2 Ni 2 O 5 , is isostructural with the equivalent superconducting cuprate phase, consisting of layers of apex-sharing, stoichiometric NiO 6 octahedra separated by a TlO layer.
