Synthesis and characterisation of the novel metallocenes [Fe(η5-C5H5EMe2)2 ](E = Si, Sn) and [Fe(η5-C5H5SnMe2)(η 6-C6H6)]2[Fe2Cl 6]

Abstract

The novel bis-heterocyclohexadienyl metallocene complexes [Fe(η 5 -C 5 H 5 EMe 2 ) 2 ] (E = Si, Sn) are prepared by reaction of anhydrous FeCl 2 with the appropriate lithium salt; [Fe(η 5 -C 5 H 5 SnMe 2 ) 2 ] undergoes a further unusual reaction with CHCl 3 to displace one SnMe 2 fragment and afford the mixed sandwich complex [Fe(η 5 -C 5 H 5 SnMe 2 )(η 6 -C 6 H 6 )] 2 [Fe 2 Cl 6 ].
