Hydration rates in H₂O of carbon suboxide are substantial but less than those of ketene, by factors of 2.5 × 10³ and 5.2 × 10⁴ for the neutral and acid-catalysed reactions, respectively, in qualitative agreement with ab initio calculated stabilities of probable intermediates.
