The reaction of silica-supported bis(allyl)rhodium, ( [triple bond, length half m-dash] SiO)(SiOX(Rh(η³-C₃H₅)₂1(X = H, Si) with PMe₃ followed by H₂ yields [RhH₂(PMe₃)₄]⁺, 2, which is characterised by IR, solid-state ³¹P NMR and elemental analyses and extracted quantitatively from the surface by ion-exchange with Buⁿ₄NCl in nitromethane; the counterion of 2 is presumed to be a siloxy group [ [triple bond, length half m-dash] SiO]^– of the silica surface.
