Novel high activity catalyst for partial oxidation of methane to formaldehyde

Abstract

Vanadium oxide–silica catalyst can effect the partial oxidation of methane to formaldehyde with extremely high activities and the space time yield (STY) can reach a value in excess of 800 g kg–1cath–1; bare silica also shows apprecible STY value upto ca. 300 g kg–1cath–1.
