Metal LIII-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure of 5d transition-metal hexafluorides and related fluoroanions

Abstract

Metal LIII-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure data have been collected for WF6, ReF6, OsF6, IrF6 and PtF6 as solids at 10 K, and refined to give M–F bond lengths which lie in the range 1.81–1.83 Å. Similar data have been obtained for the related hexafluoroanions K2[MF6] and K[MF6](M = Os, Ir or Pt) as powdered solids at room temperature, which give M–F bond lengths of 1.92–1.93 and 1.88–1.91 Å respectively.
