Absolute stereochemistry of the 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecanols in fruit-fly species, including the olive-fly

Abstract

The absolute stereochemistry of the 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecan-3- and -4-ols that consistently accompany racemic 1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane in the female olive-fly (Bactrocera oleae) and in male B. cacuminatus and B. distincta have been determined by enantioselective syntheses and chiral gas chromatographic examinations, and substantial variation occurs between the species.
