Analysis of fluazifop-butyl and fluazifop residues in soil and crops by gas chromatography

Abstract

A method is described for the determination of fluazifop-butyl and fluazifop residues in soil, leaves, cotton seed and peanuts. The residues were extracted with acetone and the extracts concentrated and derivatized, fluazifop-butyl to its bromo derivative and fluazifop to its pentafluorobenzyl derivative. The products were then purified on a chromatographic column containing Al2O3 and Florisil and quantified by gas chromatography with electron-capture detection. The determination limits of fluazifop-butyl and fluazifop were between 0.04 and 0.05 mg kg–1. The average recoveries ranged from 73.7 to 110.0% and 77.8 to 105.7%, respectively, making the method suitable for statutory residue testing purposes.
