Kinetic catalytic micro-determination of manganese(II) based on the reaction of dithionite and chloranilate and the use of a chloranilate liquid membrane ion-selective electrode

Abstract

A kinetic method for the micro-determination of manganese(II) based on its catalytic action on the chloranilate-dithionite reaction is described. A chloranilate liquid membrane ion-selective electrode was used to monitor the reaction. The time required for a potential change in a pre-selected window (10 mV) was measured and directly related to the manganese concentration. Amounts of manganese(II) in the range ca. 0.5–5.0 p.p.m. (25–250 µg) were determined with a relative error of about 2% and a relative standard deviation of 1–2%.
