Studies of the chemical oxidation of the iron(II) complex of N-methyltetraphenylporphyrin to form the corresponding symmetrical and unsymmetrical µ-oxo di-iron complexes

Abstract

New µ-oxo di-iron N-methyltetraphenylporphyrin (MeTPP) species of formula [{(MeTPP)Fe}2O](ClO4)2 and [(MeTPP)Fe–O–Fe(TPP)]ClO4 have been prepared by the reaction of (MeTPP)FeCl with silver perchlorate and characterized by i.r., visible, n.m.r., and Mössbauer spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements; the mechanism of formation of the di-iron complexes is briefly discussed.
