Biosynthesis of the ipecac β-carboline alkaloid tubulosine

Abstract

The incorporation of tryptamine, dopamine, strictosidine and vincoside, deacetylisoipecoside, deacetylipecoside, didemethyldeoxytubulosine, and deoxytubulosine into tubulosine in young Alangium lamarckii Thw. plants has been studied and a specific utilization of deacetylisoipecoside demonstrated. Results of parallel experiments with didemethyldeoxytubulosine and deoxytubulosine provide some evidence for the late stages of biosynthesis.
