Stable homopolyatomic anions: the tetrastannide (2–) and tetragermanide(2–) anions, Sn42–and Ge42–X-ray crystal structure of [K+(crypt)]2Sn42–. ethylenediamine

Abstract

The salts (K-2,2,2-crypt)2Sn4·en (en = ethyl-enediamine) and (Na-2,2,2-crypt)2Ge4 have been synthesized and shown by single crystal X-ray diffraction to contain the 18-electron, tetrahedral cluster anions Sn42– and Ge42–.
