A novel carbon dioxide complex: synthesis and crystal structure of [Nb(η-C5H4Me)2(CH2SiMe3)(η2-CO2)]

Abstract

Reduction of [Nb(η-C5H4Me)2(CH2SiMe3)Cl] with sodium amalgam in tetrahydrofuran under one atmosphere of carbon dioxide yields [Nb(η-C5H4Me)2(CH2SiMe3)(η2-CO2)](1), a moderately air-stable, thermally robust complex; the X-ray structure determination of complex (1) shows the distances Nb–CO2, Nb–OCO, C–ONb, and C[double bond, length as m-dash]O to be 2.144(7), 2.173(4), 1.283(8), and 1.216(8)Å, respectively, and ∠O–C–O 132.4(7)°.
